Chef Orlando Observes International Chefs Day 2022, Leading to his Restaurant’s 10th Anniversary

By Faye-Chantelle Mondesir

The International Chefs Day holiday, founded by Chef Dr. Bill Gallagher in 2004, is observed on October 20th annually. This culinary celebration offers worldwide chefs similar to Orlando Satchell who was a participant in 2022’s honorary day’s events, an opportunity to celebrate their dignified profession.

This year’s day dedicated to worldwide chefs was considered to be extra special for the Saint Lucian resident, a British-born chef specialising in Caribbean cuisine. He is currently preparing for his approaching tenth restaurant anniversary celebration slated for December 12th, 2022.

The day and its activities are expected to be a grand affair at Orlando’s Restaurant & Bar located in Soufriere, Saint Lucia. It is anticipated to be a festive, memorable culinary occasion for those with an appreciation for good local food and exceptional hospitality.

The goal of the annual International Chefs Day commemoration is to maintain awareness of the responsibility to transfer the knowledge and culinary skills of gourmet creatives such as Chef Orlando to the next generation of chefs. According to the Worldchefs team, this is an obligation to be embarked upon with pride and commitment toward the future.

Worldchefs, the World Association of Chefs’ Societies, is a federation consisting of one hundred and ten national chef associations. It serves as the global voice, representing culinary professionals functioning at all levels and specialties.

Founded in 1928, the organisation has been dedicated to the advancement of the profession, leveraging the chef jacket’s influence for the betterment of the industry and humanity.

Worldchefs has partnered with Nestlé Professional during former years, to educate children globally about the value of wholesome eating, via fun-filled workshops hosted worldwide.

The COVID pandemic in 2021, restricted the Worldchefs team to hosting workshops digitally. Videos created by chefs shared through social media platforms were a huge hit, resulting in six hundred and forty-eight chefs targeting and reaching over ninety-three thousand children. By November 2021, the social media viewership statistic registered was one hundred and eighty-three thousand, four hundred and nine.

Chefs are focused on not only feeding people, but maintaining their health and that of others. They recognise that both a strong immune system, coupled with eating ‘stress-busting’ foods are both essential.

Educating children about the importance of food, the impact production and consumption has on the environment, is the only way to ascertain that a healthy planet is sustained for the enjoyment of future generations.

Sharing their thoughts about this year’s activities, the Wordchefs team expressed, “We can help our children the Worldchefs way, by working together in Preparing Children for a Healthy Life”. The 2022 campaign focus for International Chefs Day was “Growing A Healthy Future”.

“This year on International Chefs Day, we will teach children about healthy eating, by encouraging them to be creative with food. With the Chefs’ input, education and help, children will be able to create recipes out of healthy foods and support Healthy Food for the Future”, they shared, in preparation for the events.

Chef Orlando, equally aligned with food education which he routinely practices during guest service at his famous food establishment, was fully immersed in the day’s activities. He recognises the need to share his love and knowledge of cuisine, not only with the diners he hosts, but also with youth and apprentice industry workers.

You are invited to partake in celebrating Orlando’s ten-year culinary experience as an internationally accomplished celebrity chef. Save the date and follow his Facebook page facebook.com/CelebrityChefOrlando for anniversary updates.
